From Polio to Purpose: How Geetha Gajendran Rebuilt Her Life with Courage and Community

A Life Defined by Resilience

Some lives are shaped by circumstances. Others are shaped by decisions. Geetha Gajendran’s journey is a powerful example of the latter.

Born into a medical crisis and surviving against all odds, Geetha faced another challenge when polio affected her right side at the age of two. Growing up in Tamil Nadu, she often struggled with feelings of loneliness and self-doubt. Surrounded by highly accomplished family members, she found it difficult to see her own strengths and often felt overshadowed by expectations.

Yet, beneath those struggles was a quiet determination that would guide her through every stage of life.

The Power of Support and Self-Belief

A turning point came when Geetha married Gaju at the age of 18. She credits her husband for helping her discover possibilities she had never imagined for herself.

With his encouragement, Geetha began learning and growing in remarkable ways. She completed a Hindi diploma, developed skills in graphic design, computer networking, computer assembly, and several creative pursuits. She worked as a graphic designer in Dubai after relocating there with her family.

Beyond professional achievements, she embraced lifelong learning. From mastering multiple languages and learning new crafts to driving, gardening, swimming, and managing a household, Geetha continuously challenged herself to grow.

What started as a search for confidence became a lifelong commitment to self-development.

Facing Loss and Finding Strength Again

After more than three decades of marriage, Geetha experienced one of the most difficult chapters of her life. Gaju battled kidney failure and spent several years on dialysis before passing away peacefully.

His loss left a deep void. The grief was overwhelming, and Geetha found herself struggling with depression and loneliness.

What helped her move forward was the unwavering support of her family, especially her sons. Their care, compassion, and presence gave her a reason to continue when life felt uncertain.

While the pain of loss never completely disappears, Geetha slowly found the strength to rebuild.

Building a New Chapter in Bangalore

Today, Geetha is actively involved in running a successful garden café in Bangalore alongside her family. What began as her younger son's passion for artisan bread and sourdough has grown into a thriving business that employs dozens of people.

The café represents more than entrepreneurship. It symbolizes renewal, purpose, and the ability to create something meaningful after hardship.

Yet Geetha realized that personal fulfilment required more than work and family. She longed for friendship, connection, and a sense of belonging.

How Marzi Helped Her Rediscover Herself

That search led her to Marzi.

After discovering a Marzi event through Instagram in 2025, Geetha decided to attend. What she found was a welcoming community where she could connect, learn, and share experiences with others.

From social gatherings and workshops to hosting events at her own café, Marzi became an important part of her life. More importantly, it helped her step beyond old insecurities and reconnect with herself.

As Geetha puts it, everyone needs people to talk to, laugh with, and share life with. Through Marzi, she found exactly that.

At 61, Geetha Gajendran’s story reminds us that it is never too late to begin again. From overcoming childhood challenges and personal loss to building a thriving business and finding community, her journey is one of resilience, growth, and rediscovery.
