If you try to catch Uma Bharadwaj for a chat, you might have to wait in line. She is either busy playing badminton matches, attending Rotary Club meetings or conducting social events for her apartment’s senior community in Bangalore.

Oh. I forgot to mention. She is 76 by the way.

What is the secret of her youthfulness, you may ask? It is not a bottle of supplements or a particular diet, but her personal mantra: “If you stop, life stops”.

A Life of Without a Pause

Born to a modest Orthodox family in Bombay, she learned the value of integrity and resilience. While growing up, she weathered all the financial constraints that hit her family and found financial footing after finishing her college. She worked as a teacher and researcher at WLO (World Labour Organization) and also ran her own company, "Expressions", where she imparted soft skills onto school students. Before she professionally retired at 60, she headed her brother’s advertisement company, ‘Accord Advertisement', for a couple of decades. In her entire professional life, there was never a time when she was idle because she believed if you stop, life stops. In her retirement life too, this rule has never been an exception for she still lives a life that is as busy as a bee.

Leading a Physically Active Life

Uma Bharadwaj maintains a rigorous physical routine even at the age of 76. She begins her day with water therapy, warm-up exercises, and a walk. She plays badminton with a group of youngsters who constantly get amazed by her energy. Her competitive spirit is so strong that she even entered a formal badminton tournament at the age of 73. Additionally, she participates in TCS marathon runs whenever they are held and plays table tennis with her husband at their clubhouse.

Always in the Thick of Things

Beyond physical fitness, Uma leads a vibrant intellectual and social life. She is a central figure in her residential community, where she spends her afternoons hosting social sessions featuring karaoke, dancing, and board games. She designs detailed PowerPoint presentations for community quizzes and interactive games.

Her commitment to service is equally profound; she is the immediate past president of her local Rotary Group, overseeing significant medical charity projects and mentoring school children through "Interact" clubs. Furthermore, she contributes to the future of medicine as a volunteer for the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), participating in research studies focused on brain function and "beautiful ageing"

What We Can Learn From Uma Bharadwaj’s Life?

Whether she is directing a skit for a festival, participating in a marathon, or researching new games online, she’s always busy all the time. Mentally, physically and socially too, Uma Bharadwaj is totally active. Three important indicators of a healthy life. Uma Bharadwaj excels in all of it at 76. This, right here, is the secret of her long and happy life.
