The problem was never that people want to go out less after 50. Most of the people we meet want exactly what they always wanted: good company, a nice setting, maybe some music. What's changed is that most nightlife is still built for someone in their mid-20s, speakers turned up past conversation level, evenings that start at 10 and end whenever, venues where you spend half the night standing.
Our version of an evening out looks different on purpose. Out by 5 or 6, home by 9:30. Music at a volume where you can actually hear the person next to you. That's not a compromise on a good evening, for most people we've met, it's what a good evening actually looks like once you stop pretending otherwise.
The Sundowner: Golden Hour, Done Properly
A sundowner is the format this whole category grew out of: an evening timed around golden hour rather than midnight, usually outdoors or somewhere with a view, built for conversation over several hours rather than a rushed two. If you want the fuller idea behind it, our sundowner explainer covers where the format comes from and why it suits this age group so well. Our flagship Bangalore sundowner runs regularly and is the easiest way to see the format in person rather than just read about it.
Rooftops & Open-Air Evenings
Open-air venues solve a specific problem: indoor bars trap noise and heat, making conversation genuinely difficult after a couple of hours. A rooftop or open terrace lets sound spread out rather than bounce around a closed room, a small detail that makes a much bigger difference to how the evening actually feels. Dedicated rooftop and open-air listings are coming soon as more venues come online; for now, our sundowner events are the best entry point into this format.
Live Music, at a Listenable Volume
Live music doesn't have to mean a wall of speakers and a crowd shouting over the band to be heard. A well-run acoustic set or a small live act, kept at a reasonable volume, adds atmosphere without making conversation impossible. We're building out dedicated live-music evenings in both cities, and they'll be listed here as they launch.
The Long Sunday Lunch (Brunch, Unhurried)
Brunch is really the daytime cousin of the sundowner: same idea, earlier hours, food playing a bigger role than music. Bangalore is where this format is furthest along right now, with Mumbai brunches on a slower timeline as we prioritise the formats with the most demand first. Full brunch listings will sit here once they're ready to book.
Where Marzi Runs Evenings Out
This section pulls live upcoming sundowner and evening events across both cities as they're scheduled. Check back for current dates, or head straight to the events page below.
Our home base for this category is Bangalore, where the Bangalore evenings out hub lists everything currently running. Mumbai coverage is on the way and will be linked here the moment it's live. In the meantime, our Things to Do Near You page is the broader starting point if you're not sure which format or neighbourhood suits you yet.
