Two things are both true about Bangalore's live music scene. It's genuinely rich, with real jazz, acoustic and indie talent passing through regularly. And it churns hard: venues open, get famous, and close within a few years, often over the same licensing disputes. That second fact is why this page carries a checked date rather than a permanent list, and why a page updated this month beats a stale listicle written three years ago.
This guide isn't about the gig scene generally. It's about live music at a volume where you can still hold a conversation, seated rather than standing, and it's organised by the kind of room that delivers that.
Why This Page Carries a Date
Bangalore lost several of its best-loved live rooms in a wave of licensing disputes, largely traced back to noise complaints in Indiranagar. Take5, a 14-year jazz institution, closed after losing its occupancy certificate. BFlat's original Indiranagar space and The Humming Tree both shut for similar reasons. None of this was really about the music; it was buildings, permits and neighbours, and it happened fast enough that most online lists still recommend places that no longer exist.
So here's the promise: every entry below was checked as of this dateline, and we'd still call ahead before you go. Venue names, nights and even whether a place still runs live music at all can change within months in this city.
Rooms Built for Listening
Windmills Craftworks, Whitefield. A genuine jazz theatre, not just a bar with a band: seated dining for up to 200, book-lined walls, and a curated calendar that's brought in real international names. Evenings can get properly crowded and lively once a set starts, so if a quieter table matters more than the headline act, a lunchtime visit is the calmer version of the same room.
Fandom at Gilly's Redefined. Worth being upfront about this one: it's the city's most talked-about live-music survivor, and for good reason, but it's built as a 500-capacity standing venue for indie, rock and metal acts. It doesn't fit the seated, conversation-level lens this page is built around, so we're naming it as the scene's current mainstay rather than recommending it as a comfortable evening out.
Hotel Residencies & Restaurant Sets
Bira 91 Taproom, Indiranagar. Runs acoustic singer-songwriter and jazz-duo sets on weekend evenings, casual and restaurant-volume rather than concert-volume.
Urban Solace, Ulsoor. A similar casual class of venue, with live acoustic sets woven into a regular dinner service rather than built around a dedicated stage.
Hotel lounge residencies, the steadiest and most churn-proof class of live music in most cities, do exist in Bangalore too, but names and schedules shift often enough that we'd rather point you toward confirming directly with a specific property than list one here without current confirmation.
The Auditorium Evenings
Chowdiah Memorial Hall. A proper seated concert hall hosting classical, devotional and ghazal evenings, with genuine names on the calendar rather than tribute acts. Check the venue's own listing for what's on, since programming here is close to the classical end of the spectrum rather than contemporary live music.
Bangalore International Centre. A cultural venue hosting a broad mix of talks and performances, including music evenings, in a genuinely comfortable, seated setting.
Alliance Française de Bangalore. A cultural institution running free or low-cost seated performances alongside its language and arts programming, worth checking for an occasional music evening among its wider calendar.
Marzi Evenings with Live Music
A dedicated live-music format is still being developed for Bangalore; this section will list it here once confirmed.
In the meantime, our sundowner evenings occasionally include a quieter acoustic set as part of the format. Our Bangalore evenings out page has current details on what's running.
